The Africa Portal welcomes submissions of opinion pieces, analysis, interviews, book reviews and essays.
e cover an array of topics including politics, economics, environment, health, security, human rights, foreign policy and the impact of global developments on Africa.
We encourage topical submissions that demonstrate critical thinking and nuance, and which foster public understanding and debate. Pieces that bring attention to new or pertinent research are also welcome.
All submissions must be written in an accessible and engaging way to be eligible for publication.
Short pieces are our preferred choice of content. These should be 800-1000 words and should be analytical in focus.
Longer pieces of 1 200-2 000 words are accepted depending on the depth of research, clarity and flow of writing style, and inclusion of narrative.
Reported pieces can range from 700-1 200 words, or, for longer, more investigative pieces, up to 5 000 words. These pieces should contain interviews, storytelling or in-depth research.
Authors are relied upon to fact check their contributions and hyperlink to sources of information, facts or quotations as appropriate.
Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis and should be accompanied by the author’s full contact details, a short bio and writing sample when possible.
All submissions and editorial inquiries should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
