Zambia moves into the forefront of the Rhodesian conflict

This paper has as its theme the struggle for independence in Rhodesia. The process to gain independence was not an easy one as sanctions had an adverse effect on the development of Rhodesia. The refusal of the United Nations to talk to the illegal regime did not make it any easier. Zambia therefore took the lead in proclaiming the sanctions against Rhodesia a failure and hoped to gain financial stability by receiving compensation for their actions through Britain and the United Nations. With taking a forceful stance against the regime of Mr Smith Zambia hoped to force him to capitulate and in this way gain independence for Rhodesia. However Zambia’s actions caused economic difficulties instead of financial stability.
