Water: A looming crisis?

“Some of the issues discussed in this paper were: Water issues are central to development and environmental sustainability. Government needs to play the strategic leadership role, and take the necessary decisions to address the water crisis. People from different sectors, not just the water sector, need to come together to discuss issues and make plans. The country needs a water champion at the heart of government who can give the lead to the cabinet and all departments. Without this it will be impossible for the corporate and civil sectors to engage with the state on these issues. Civil society needs to think about how it can play a role outside the state. Major interests such as metros, the corporate sector, industry, and agriculture have a fundamental interest in how this situation will be addressed. They need to have a strategic approach, and a game plan.”
