Speech

The US View of South Africa

“For some time now, Americans have been coming to South Africa to celebrate with you the end of apartheid. That has been our great privilege, and it is mine, too. But
we have new work to do. The victory of freedom has opened new challenges for your people. It has also opened an opportunity that our nations must grasp: the opportunity
to act together to advance common interests in Africa and around the world. That is why today I want to speak about America’s engagement on this continent and to explain
why peace, democracy, and prosperity in Africa matter so much to the United States (US).”
