The Role of Earth and Environmental Sciences in Peace Development in Africa

Africa has a history of ethnic conflict, resource and trans-boundary conflict and human security is threatened by climate change. The focus of this brief is how earth and environmental sciences can influence peace development by looking at 3 themes relevant to Africa: mineral dependent states where mineral resources exposes countries to inequality, less democracy, corruption and conflict; trans-boundary resources in East Africa where natural resources across country borders are either neglected or over exploited; and climate change as a threat to human security.
