The Outlook for American Policies towards South Africa in 1985

The beginning of the year has seen South African relations with the U. S at the top of the foreign policy agenda. Developments in five inter-related areas namely protests, legislation in the US congress as well as states and cities, the Sullivan code and constructive engagement are dealt with here. However the relationship between the two countries is much wider and more complex than simply one between two governments.
