The Lome Conventions: From Sunday Charity to a New International Economic Order

“The goal of this paper is to trace the history of European-African relations in the post-Independence era; to try to place the first Lome Convention in the quest for a new International Economic Order; to discuss the recent negotiations on a new Lome Convention and to identify some of the innovations of the new convention; and finally, to make some unstructured observations on the European Community’s policy towards Southern Africa and the problems in that part of the world.”
