The Lomé Convention: Where is it heading?
The Lomé convention governs relations between 70 African, Caribbean and Pacific countries, all former colonies of members of the European Union. Most of these countries are in Africa. This update looks at the reasons for the existence of the Convention and the issues of contention in the structure. The Lome convention was supposed to alleviate poverty but instead finds increasing poverty and debt in the ACP. South Africa is used as an example and the conclusion of the author is that the Lome convention needs revision.
