course of the day were: What does South Africa need from its universities in the new millennium? What does business need from higher education in the context of globalisation? What will help businesses develop a coherent strategy to pursue its interests in relation to the higher education system? This is an edited version of the day’s discussion. A number of experts had been asked to make lead-in presentations, and these are summarised in the main text.”
