South-West Africa: The factual background

This paper gives the background for the development of South West Africa. The history and exploration of South West Africa by the British and Cape colonist are explained as well as the German influence and eventual occupation of the country by Germany. However this was changed in 1914 when South West Africa became a mandate of South Africa. The political situation and constitutional development of South West Africa are discussed in length. The financial situation of South West Africa was of such a nature that they could not function autonomously and their economic resources were limited. South West Africa is therefore depended on South Africa but not in a parasitic way. The conclusion of this report is that the two countries are indispensable to each other.
