In this issue of the bulletin, debate in the Smuts House notes questions the level of violence and disturbances in the country. The first article looks at economic policies pursued by western government towards South Africa that generates strong emotions across the South African political spectrum. Another article “outlines progress in international codification of the law of the sea and examines South Africa’s legislation relating to certain aspects of that law.” The article Persian Gulf will examine the dynamics of the Persian Gulf region and its interaction with the interests and policies of outside powers, particularly the United States and the Soviet Union. The New World Information Order discusses the background to the NWIO; criticism of and the legal implications of the NWIO; and the future of the NWIO.The bulletin then ends with book reviews.
