The overall objective of this report is to generate information on genetically modified cotton crops, with regard to biotechnology, biosafety policy, choices and options. This brief also examines constraints posed by the bollworm in the production of cotton. This report estimates the farm income gains that might be expected from planting of Bt cotton for six countries in the region: Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. The projected income gains are found to be significant, although in most cases not highly dramatic.
