Briefing Paper

Progress Towards Good Governance and Increased Accountability in Tanzania

“Economic growth, reduction of poverty and improved quality of life all rely upon the fair, effective and transparent use of Tanzania’s resources. Therefore, the success of MKUKUTA’s Clusters I and II relies on achieving the four desired outcomes of MKUKUTA’s Cluster III: i) good governance and the rule of law; ii) accountability of leaders and public servants; iii) democracy,
and political and social tolerance; and iv) peace, political stability, national unity and social cohesion. This brief, the third in the series of briefs on PHDR 2009, presents data on key indicators for Cluster III.”
