Poverty and the Anthropometric Status of Children: A Comparative Analysis of Rural and Urban Households in Togo

“The aim of this study is thus to model and estimate the determinants of child
malnutrition in Togo according to their area of residence. Specifically, the study measures and analyses the nutritional status of children, and assesses the impact of the household non-monetary wealth index and other household socio-demographic factors on child nutritional status depending on whether the household lives in the rural or urban area. Two hypotheses are tested: the first (H1) is: the higher the wealth index of the urban and rural household is, the higher the child’s nutritional status will be. The second hypothesis (H2) is: mother’s education in the rural area has a higher positive impact on the child’s nutritional status than in the urban area.”
