Perspectives on the Role of Key Stakeholders in the DRC’s Political Transition

“Does the DRC have the capacity, the visionary leadership, political will and resources to move towards a democratic society? This work attempts to answer these critical questions by reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses of key stakeholders in the process. It will look at the following actors—the executive, Parliament, political parties, civil society, Chapter 9 institutions and the international community. These stakeholders were chosen because of their seminal importance to the transition process. The paper recognises that there are other important stakeholders such as the army, the justice system and multinational companies that influence the transitional process in the DRC. By discussing the first set of stakeholders, we do make references to others not given a particular attention in this study.”
