“This report analyses the nature and extent of environmental crime in Sudan. It is based on a study commissioned by the Environmental Crimes Project (ECP) that is implemented jointly by the Institute for Security Studies
(ISS) and the East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO). The main objective of the ECP is to enhance human security by improving regional law enforcement and policy-making aimed at fighting environmental crime in East Africa.
‘Environment’ is the combination and interaction of all the physical factors that constitute the surroundings of human beings, including land, water, the atmosphere, sound, odour, taste, climate and other life such as
animals and plants. The environment also covers social and cultural factors, both in the natural and built environment.”
