Natural Resource Management and its Implications on National and Sub-Regional Security: The Case of the Niger Delta

“The focus of this paper is poor resource management and the impact on the political, economic and environmental situations. At the root of most of the violent conflicts in history has been the competition for territory and resources, and specifically seen in Africa this competition is based on the lack of resources to benefit all of the population. Poor resource management has huge implications for peace and security in the region. The notion of a natural resource curse is closely linked to poor resource management as it creates “stagnation and conflict, rather than economic growth and development”.
