Market Information Voice Messages Increase Revenues for Guinea-Bissau’s Cashew Producers

Cashew nut production and commercialization is the main income source for a large portion of Guinea-Bissau’s population and represents more than 90% of the country’s annual exports. However, for many producers, access to reliable price information is scarce. This is due to their high geographical dispersion, the distance to markets and competing commercial interests of the actors in the sector. Voice messages that share price developments and market trends can increase sales and incomes for cashew producers in Guinea-Bissau. Providing this information for free through the n’kalô market information system is effective. Public-private/independent partnerships are likely to be able to ensure the reliability and sustainability of the service.
