Human Security in Africa A Conceptual Framework for Review

“This monograph sets out a conceptual framework for the review of selected commitments that African leaders have made at the level of the meetings of the heads of state and government of the African Union (AU) and its predecessor, the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). It does so within the
spirit of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM). NEPAD rests “on the determination of Africans to extricate themselves and the continent from the malaise of underdevelopment and exclusion in a globalising world.” It is not the first
continental initiative to try to do so but the level of political commitment (both from African leadership and its development partners), the manner in which NEPAD acknowledges and feeds into the dominant global process and its domestic roots sets it apart from previous failed efforts.”
