This brief consists of several articles written by 5 different authors. Brooks and Letsholo highlighted the nature of the accusations from the warring parties, which appear to have surrounded RENAMO leader, Afonso Dhlakama’s visit to Sofala in April 2004. Dr Kanyongolo examines 3 factors which is key in the democratisation process of Malawi, which are financial dependence, non-partisanship and ability to facilitate inclusion of marginalised groups in the electoral process. Keulder discussed the voter turnout in Namibia 1989-99, as the democracy regime creates numerous opportunities for citizens to participate. Dr Sebudubudu discussed the role of political rallies in Botswana’s electoral process.
