Determinants of Technical Efficiency Differentials Amongst Small- and Medium-Scale Farmers in Uganda: A Case of Tobacco Growers

“The principal objective of this study, using tobacco farmers as a case study, is to
identify factors that influence their technical efficiencies. The specific objectives are twofold: First, the study seeks to estimate farmer-specific technical efficiencies. Second, the study attempts to identify the factors that influence technical efficiency differentials among tobacco farmers. The rest of the paper is structured as follows. Section 2 discusses
the technical efficiencies and their determinants, while Section 3 addresses the analytical framework. Empirical results are provided in Section 4. The summary and policy
discussions in Section 5 conclude the paper.”
