Climate Change in Somalia: Turning Challenges into Opportunities

Climate change poses a great risk to the livelihoods of the Somali people. This is because the Somali natural environment and associated production systems are highly vulnerable to climate change. The natural environment experiences constraints that limits its production potential and increases its sensitivity and exposure to climate risks. It affects the livelihoods of the Somali people and poses the risk of eroding the progress made in rebuilding the country and moving it towards long term development. The brief aims to provide recommendations that would reduce the risk that climate change poses to Somali livelihoods and therefore contribute to the social and economic development of the country.
