This paper discusses the changes in Dutch society that influenced the political development of the country. The religious divide was the cause of discrimination. Therefore a system was developed to ensure the stability that the Dutch experience in their social as well as political life. The reasons for the attitudes of the Dutch people towards South Africa are explained and that stems perhaps from the kinship that was felt towards the South African situation.
