A nation in turmoil the experience of South African firms doing business in Zimbabwe

“The purpose of the study is to identify some of the pitfalls of doing business in Zimbabwe, a country that has increasingly
become out of kilter with both the global environment and even the regional political and economic contexts. It has, in many ways, taken a step back in time as a result of the
government’s authoritarian and centralist policies. For all this, Zimbabwe is a key country in Africa — but probably for the
wrong reasons. It is in the international spotlight because the policies of the government represent much of what is wrong
with Africa, and because the response of other African countries to the crisis in Zimbabwe has demonstrated a weakness in the commitment shown to the principles
underpinning the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (Nepad) by the continent’s leaders.”
