Herman Musahara

Herman Musahara is a Rwandan national holding a B.A. First Class and  MA Economics from University of Dar es Salaam and PhD in Development Studies from University of Western Cape in South Africa. He is currently Director of Research and Capacity Building of OSSREA (the Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  OSSREA is based in Ethiopia catering for Chapters in 23 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. He was prior to that at the National University of Rwanda and formerly Dean of Economics and Management 2005, Director of University Consultancy Bureau 2008, Director of Planning and Development 2010 Acting Vice Rector Academics and Research in 2011. He was till April 2014 an Associate Professor in the College of Business and Economics of University of Rwanda. Besides teaching Development Economics, Poverty Analysis and Research Methodology at post graduate level he has researched, consulted and published in several fields of the social sciences including poverty analysis, human development, environment, land and land use, governance, post conflict transitions including Post Genocide, entrepreneurship, SMEs, value chains and agricultural development. He has led projects for the Government of Rwanda, UNDP, UNEP, World Bank, USAID, Nile Basin, ASARECA,FAO to mention but a few. Before appointment to OSSREA secretariat he was one of the Vice Presidents, member of Board of Equity Bank Rwanda, member of Board of Institute of Policy Analysis and Research in Rwanda, member of the Advisory Academic Council of the Global MDP coordinated from Columbia University and Focal Point of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network. He is married with children.
