Ana Cristina Alves

Dr. Ana Cristina Alves (Ph.D) is senior researcher at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) in the Global Powers in Africa Programme. Her current research focuses on the engagement of China, Brazil and other emerging powers in Africa, and on Chinese investments in resources sectors in South America and in Portuguese-speaking countries. She has published extensively on China–Africa issues, including China and Angola: A Marriage of Convenience? (2012) and "Chinese Economic Statecraft: A Comparative Study of China's Oil-backed Loans in Angola and Brazil" (Journal of Current Chinese Affairs, 2013).

Her most recent publications include "China's 'win-win' cooperation: Unpacking the impact of infrastructure-for-resource deals in Africa" (South African Journal of International Affairs, 2013) and “Brazil-Africa”, in: LSE IDEAS, Emerging Powers in Africa, Special Report, online edition (2013).
