Lisa Otto is a Senior Researcher / Lecturer with the SARChI Chair: African Diplomacy and Foreign Policy at the University of Johannesburg, and is co-Editor in Chief of the African Security Review (2019-2022). Prior to this, Lisa worked at Coventry University, the South African Institute of International Affairs, and the Institute for Security Studies. Her research interests have largely revolved around non-traditional threats to security, where she has developed specific expertise in Maritime Security. Her doctoral research considered the nexus of resource exploitation and transnational organised crime at sea in the Gulf of Guinea, focusing on Nigeria.
