Christine Cheng

Christine Cheng is Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in War Studies at King's College London. Dr. Cheng teaches international relations and conducts research on post-conflict transitions, focusing specifically on the role of extralegal groups and the challenges and opportunities that these groups present for post-conflict transitions. She has conducted extensive field research in West Africa and specializes in Liberia. Dr. Cheng is the co-editor (with Dominik Zaum) of Corruption and Peacebuilding: Selling the Peace? (Routledge 2011). Her research interests include weak and failed states, organized crime, peacekeeping and statebuilding, the UN, West African politics, corruption, and women in politics. In 2009, she was the Cadieux- Léger Fellow at Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Dr. Cheng holds a D.Phil in Politics at the University of Oxford (Nuffield), an MPA from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, and a BASc in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Christine has commented on international affairs for the BBC, Al Jazeera English, the Wall Street Journal and other news outlets.
