Barbara Keitumetse Mashope

Dr Barbara Keitumetse Mashope, is a Research Specialist in the Science and Technology Programme, of the Africa Institute of South Africa. She holds a Phd in Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology and Marker Biotechnology, and an M.Sc and Honours in Microbiology from UFS. She spent her undergraduate years at Rhodes University where she obtained a BSc in Biochemistry and Microbiology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Enterprise Management.  Before joining the Africa Institute of South Africa she worked for the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), as the deputy national coordinator for Early detection and Evaluation of emerging invasive alien plant species. She has also worked as a lecturer at UFS. Her research interests cut across many disciplines with a special focus on indigenous health practices
