Nelson Sewankambo

Dr. Nelson Sewankambo is principal of the Medical School at Makerere University in Uganda. He is involved in research projects dealing with infectious diseases, health care training and delivery in Africa, and in knowledge translation, which entails translating research results into policy and action. In addition to his role as dean, he is the chair of ISHReCA (Initiatives for Strengthening Health Research Capacity in Africa), co-director of the Academic Alliance for AIDS Care and Prevention in Africa, vice president of Accordia Global Health Foundation and professor of Internal Medicine at Makerere University. In 2007, Dr. Sewankambo received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa from McMaster University. In 2006, he was awarded a fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians (FCRP), London. Dr. Sewankambo has an M.B.Ch.B in medicine and an M.Med in internal medicine from Makerere University, and an M.Sc in clinical epidemiology from McMaster University.
