Since 1988, December 1 has been remembered as World Aids Day. Over the years the focus of the commemoration has changed, reflecting the progress that has been made in understanding and treating HIV/AIDS. The theme for 2012 is “Getting to Zero,” reflecting the hope of reducing the rate of new infections to zero.
