Kenya's 2013 Elections

"This year’s elections in Kenya will be the first since the 2007-2008 post-election violence that left more than 1,000 dead and over 300,000 displaced and the 2010 adoption of a new constitution. The bloodshed was only ended after intense mediation under African Union (AU) envoy and former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan that led to a power-sharing deal, the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation Agreements (National Accords), between the two main contenders, President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga. This report examines political and electoral prepara-tions of the next elections in Kenya: the new constitution and its implementation, the ICC process, political alliance formation, and how they will impact the polls. It is based on extensive interviews across the country, discussions with politicians and government officials, civil society organisations, and consultation with national and international elections experts."
