Botswana after Diamonds: A study into the Consequences and Responses to the Depletion of Botswana’s Diamonds

“This book explores Botswana’s economic situation post the diamond era. The authors have through their research, established that within the foreseeable future the profitability of diamond mining will begin to decline and Botswana will face serious economic challenges. The overall purpose of this study was to seek a path for the Botswana economy towards a future in which government revenues from taxation of the mining sector would be substituted, to the greatest possible extent, by revenues from other sources, as part of a continuing process of economic diversification. The study is in three parts: Minerals and energy exports and revenue projections; the economy-wide consequences of declining diamond production in Botswana (Life after Diamonds); and Export diversification policies for export success in Botswana.”
